I was going to say “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” but “Troop Beverly Hills” is the best idea! I loved that movie when I was young.
You guys must have the brightest feet in all of Dobbs Ferry!
Girls Just Want to Have Fun or Troop Beverly Hills!
Troop Beverly Hills!!
The Breakfast Club is great but has a lot of language.
My vote is for The Three Amigos!
Movie suggestion: Fly Away Home
Parent Trap or Neverending Story are good…a lot of the movies others are suggesting are great but when you have other’s kids, you can have some of the language…Troop Beverly Hills, Breakfast Club, even Back to the Future. Same with Big… discouraging because they are great!
Sorry, meant to say “you can’t have some of the language that is in those films”. Good luck!
Pee Wee’s Big Adventure…both my kids absolutely love it, and so has every friend they have introduced it to!
I love the Friday roundups and kids book suggestions. Loving these movie ideas also. My girls are really into Radio Rebel on Netflix these days.
Thought you might like to know that my sister-in-law reported that there was a “Kale Stew Off” in Westport recently. Your version, pg. 250, WON! Best tasting AND Easiest to make.
(Guess what we’re having for dinner tomorrow?)
As for movies? What about ET? Although I am cracking myself up thinking about The Three Amigos, as suggested by Amy G. HI-larious!
Loved this roundup. Lots of good reads. My daughters loved Anne of Green Gables, not really a movie but, better, a series.
Did you follow the link at the end of the Best Parenting Advice article? So beautiful.
Movie suggestions — DEFINITELY a Hiyao Miyasaki movie. My children LOVE them. Castle in the Sky, Howl’s Moving Castle, My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. They are amazing and great favorites in my house. He also did Ponyo and Secret World of Arrietty.
Loved the article about cooking and feminism. Also loved the parenting tip. As Rachel Macy Stafford said in her post in Huffington Post, it works well with kids — and other loved ones — of all ages.
Had to laugh at Andy’s last addition–my boyfriend just broke me down on The Wire also. The season 1 DVD is sitting next to me right now, waiting to be watched…
Great roundup!
The Wire – LOVE. Then you can move onto Treme.
How about Kicking & Screaming for the girls. Soccer and Will Ferrell. What could be better?
My girls are the same age and into soccer as well and loved, Chak De! India. It’s a Bollywood film from 2007 about the national Indian women’s field hockey team. It’s a fun story that takes on some heavy issues that my girls could understand (and I think learned something). Netflix has it on demand.
LOVE the Wire. So sad it ended. Brilliant writing. We had to watch it with the subtitles on, though, to understand what they were saying. You are making me want to watch it again….
love this round up. thanks for taking the time to compile. As for movies, I echo the suggestion of Troop Beverly Hills (showed it at my dtr’s 11th bday). Also: Bend it Like Beckham, Princess Bride, Billy Elliott??
