A Very Big Day

So, in case you haven’t heard, today is the day Dinner: A Love Story is officially on sale.  When you pick up your copy, the first thing I’d like you to do is turn to The Acknowledgments on page 299. There are a lot of people mentioned in those pages — as my editor said when she received my first draft of the section, “This should be it’s own book!” — because there were a lot of people who helped make this happen in both small ways (picking up my kids at school when I was in the middle of shooting a pork chop: Annie!) and huge (producing a masterful Dinner: A Love Story Book Trailer: Ed!) But you will see that the very first thank-you goes out to you guys, my loyal dinner-making, book-reading, thoughtful-comment-writing Dinner: A Love Story readers. It’s hard to overstate how much your support these past few years has meant to me and how much I appreciate all those heartfelt emails I receive on a daily basis — the ones that Andy mentioned last week and which, half the time, come with the subject head “Thank you.”

Well, now it’s time for me to say thank you.  Over the last few months I’ve been collecting gifts that fit with the general philosophy of this blog — pots and pans and cooking classes and a week of free dinners and kids’ books and crazy cool lunchboxes and some of the most delicious chocolates you will ever eat. So it’s only fair that today, the day Dinner: A Love Story is published, you guys get the chance to win them. All you have to do is click here to check out the prizes, answer one simple question (what part of the book resonated with you the most?), and follow the instructions on that page for how to proceed. (Please do not leave your “resonant moment” in this comment field. Again, go here!)

You have until July 6 to enter. Good luck!

And: Thank you.

Jenny, Andy, Phoebe & Abby

IMPORTANT! To be able to proceed, you need to solve the following simple math (so we know that you are a human) :-)

My copy should be arriving from Amazon with the mailman today. My kids are a little bit older than yours (14 & 11) but even though I’m a personal chef, I still experience those picky eaters giving my slaved over dinner the thumbs down. I love checking your site in the morning and making your recipes for dinner that night ( I have a well stocked pantry so I can usually pull it off).
Congratulations on the book!

Best of luck with everything great that will come from the publication of the book.
Getting a copy of the book is on my list of things to do this week.

I got my shipping notice on Saturday and I can’t wait to get home and open that Amazon box! On Friday, I made Tony’s steak to celebrate :) Banner day!

Congratulations on the book! I can’t wait to get my copy in the mail. I have two little boys and so much of what you write resonates with our family. Thank you for all you have shared!

Kim R

I just want to say – CONGRATULATIONS! This is a momentous occasion and I’m so glad you can share it with the entire family, who have inspired you to write the blog and then the book. Thank you for sharing your experiences with all of us!

Jan @ Family Bites

My copy arrived last Friday afternoon, just in time for a three-day rainy weekend. I’ve poured over the pages and love every single thing about the book. I’m so glad you wrote it! Congratulations to you all.

Congrats! I can’t wait for my copy to arrive. I know it will be great.

Yay! I can’t even describe how excited I am for my book to arrive – TODAY! Without even having a peek inside it’s pages yet, I know it will become my dinner bible.

Lisa from Colorado

Thank you for helping me keep dinner inspired instead of routinely boring.

Congratulations–I just ordered my copy on Amazon and can’t wait for it to arrive. Your blog has been such a HUGE inspiration for me and you’ve added at least three dishes into my regular rotation. Every time I think I have nothing to cook for dinner and then realize that I can make chicken chili I send you a silent thank you.

Congratulations!!! You must be so proud. Kudos for following your dreams , it is an elite club!

Congrats! I’m going to have to get a copy. I have four kids – two picky eaters (ages 6 & 16) – two who will eat anything (ages 4 & 7). Love your blog / site …..

Congratulations! Funny…took pizza dough out of the freezer last night for dinner tonight. Might just have to track down that book today, rather than waiting for a delivery truck! If that’s not possible, I already have your pizza pages marked from Time for Dinner. :O)

I placed my order today. I always need a hand feeding my boys in record time. Cant wait!

I knew the book would be on sale in early June, but today I decided I was just going to finally pre-order so I wouldn’t forget, and didn’t realize today was actually the big day! Congratulations!! Your blog is amazing, and my very picky family enjoys every recipe of yours that I make. Can’t wait to get my book in the mail!! You are single-handedly changing the family dinner dynamic and making what is normally a chaotic and exhausting time of day, one that is easy, attainable, and enjoyable. Thank you!!

Amanda @ DinnersintheFourOneFive

My copy is in the mail according to Amazon and I can’t wait!

Would anyone be interested in doing a Cook A-Long to the DALS Book, kind of like a Book Club with dinner benefits. If so, I’ll set up a web ring for all of us to participate in. Jenny – I hope this is ok to do.

Just got my shipping notice! So exciting. Can’t wait to see the book. Congratulations and thank you.

Congratulations on the release of your book!

I have been a visitor to your blog since I was on mat leave with my now 2 yr old. You have saved many a dinner hour in my home3 and made dinner as a family an achievable dream.

Thank you!

Oh ya – I just ordered the book today too.

Can’t wait for it to arrive!

Jody R.

Congrats! My kitchen shelf with notable food reference books has a spot waiting for this very special book!

So exciting Jenny! I always feel a bit like a fraud with my Le Creuset pots, sabatier and global knives and dualit toaster(sucks) mostly because I don’t cook. However, since dinneralovestory evolved I have become less of a fraud and as my 7 year old told me last week, “Mom you are a pretty good cooker.” Congratulations!

Congratulations! I’m tickled to scroll down and see the two-topping pizza, because that’s exactly what I admire about your style: the emphasis on sharing the table, however you can make that happen.

Congratulations!!! I can’t wait for mine to arrive. Its like the birth of a child and this time there are no sleepless nights in your future!!

but also: look at all the pasta on that right-hand page. those were the days…

am headed to stoop right now, so i can bird-dog the corner, waiting for the UPS truck to make its turn. (What can Brown do for me? Deliver my GD DALS book already, that’s what.)

Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Our book budget is less than zero, but I’m SO EXCITED that our local library has ordered a few copies, so I’m in line at least. :) [And also, I think it is pretty cool that 5 other DALS readers already requested it before I did -- in my own county!]

I’ve never bought a book on the first day before – so exciting! And its so good!! I’ve only skimmed through quickly. Can’t wait to take my time to read each & every word.

Huge congrats!!

Btw, the poor cashier got quite an earful from me when she admitted she had no idea who you were or what the book was about. Crazy right?

The book is awesome. It’s like a funny book book, with amazing recipes and serious inspiration. I started it tonight, while my 3 yr old ate bagel bites. Thanks for writing it!!

I am looking forward to my copy coming soon! One of my “back pocket” recipes is your Kale, Bean & Sausage stew. I seem to always have Kale in the garden and find it easy to throw together on a rainy, cool day. Congratulations!!!!

so exciting!!! i was lucky enough to receive some money for my birthday, and guess what i bought! ;) i was going to go the amazon route, but realized i wanted to support my local bookstore as well as ‘local’ family (hey, NH & Brooklyn aren’t that far apart…) Three cheers to happy cooking!

My copy came in the mail today while my kiddos and I were out. I saw the UPS truck coming from far away and knew what awaited!
The intro was wonderful and even…captivating? Odd to think that about a cookbook, but you had me cheering for your friend from my little world! I also laughed aloud at “So that’s how she manages to read the NYT every freaking day, cover to cover!” Congrats !,

My copy arrived today and it looks FANTASTIC. I can’t wait to spend a big chunk of time with it. Congratulations!

I left work on time today so that I could come home, open my box from Amazon, and start reading! So very excited and looking forward to making my way through it! Congratulations on a wonderful book!

Congrats! I have your bumper sticker on my fridge, so seeing a photo of the same sticker in another kitchen made me feel like I was included in the book too:)

Today the postman woke me up at 9 AM (i don’t do before 11 very well. also: no kids, no husband, so i can hehe) with an amazon box. usually i open the door, get the box, toss it somewhere and go back to bed. but it was the long awaited book! so straight to a chair with a big cup of coffee i went. thanks so much for this book! love it!

Congratulations to your family on the book! I love the blog, but must admit I am a fan of the sauce stained pages of my cookbooks – excited to add yours to the rotation.

Congratulations! I got my copy last night, poured myself a gin and tonic after the kiddos were in bed and read 150 pages! My husband got annoyed because I kept interrupting him to read a passage…it just sounds so much like my hectic life! Thanks for taking the time to document, can’t wait to try some of the new recipes.

Congratulations on your very big day! I have pre-ordered a copy from Amazon and I can’t wait to dig in (pun intended!). Best wishes for a smashing success!

My book just arrived and it was a bad idea to have it delivered to the office. I just keep getting sucked in. We’re in the middle section (19 month old). This website has been a god-send (mustard pretzel chicken!) and this book is fabulous – I need to go hide it in my car so I can get some work accomplished today. Thank you.

LOVING IT. Got it yesterday during family dinner (ironically) and having a hard time putting it down. Very, very well done. Thanks, Jenny!!

Congratulations! My copy arrived yesterday afternoon, and I was so excited to see it on the front steps when I got home — and couldn’t wait until I put my daughter to bed so I could read it! (Is that antithetical to the DALS approach to life? If so, I am not all that apologetic in this case!) I read until my eyes were heavy last night, and then hauled it along to a dermatologist appointment this morning, and was so thankful to have extra time to read it during the interminably long wait instead of rushing right off to work after daycare drop off. I don’t think there’s a single recipe in it I wouldn’t want to make, and I SO feel you about the challenges of the early parenting years — but I now feel profound relief thinking that it’s not a permanent condition! Thank you, thank you!

Congratulations! My copy was on my chair when I got back from lunch and it is beautiful. I am now distracted from the afternoon’s to-do list because I just want to dive in. When I opened the Amazon package in front of my friend she said, “oh a new cookbook?” and I babbled, “yeah, my friend Jenny wrote a book, I mean, she’s not really my friend, my internet friend, I don’t really know her, but I do, I mean…”. I guess I’m just proud. What an amazing accomplishment.

Poured a glass of wine and read as long as I could keep my eyes open last night. Bravo!

My copy arrived today! So far I’ve only flipped through it but I am so excited to dive in. If it is anything like the blog, I am certainly in for a treat. :)

Congratulations! Mine just came today, and I just love it already. It feels so hearty and healthy in your hands. I love the pictures, and am excited to get to know your family even better. But I’m most excited about putting it in my recipe holder (for good).

I also loved the piece on NPR, and was thrilled to see you again in Bon Appetit this month!

My copy arrived today. Finally at 9:45, after baths, bed time, post-bedtime clean up, email answering, phone call returning etc…I have had the chance to look through your amazing book. Jenny, it is so lovely – visually, technically, emotionally. What a phenomenal accomplishment. I can’t wait to read it in full. Thank you for all of the hard work that went in to DALS the book. You are a rock star!

I just got my new cookbook and am so excited. Quick edit to your blog…pizza recipes actually start on page 270, not page 266.
